The AKG K 216 AFC model is a set of wireless headphones designed for in-home casual use with a TV or stereo system and includes an open-air earbud design with a slim headband. The headphones are specifically targeted for lounging "couch potatoes", and are built for a more mature audience of users. The K 216 headphones are heavily refined for use with a television and other added video entertainment devices. The actual K 216 AFC sound features are optimized for speech reproduction and the headset also features headset volume and balance controls. The set's included transmitter uses radio waves to broadcast an 864MHz wireless signal which allows up to 100 feet distance from the base. The K 216 AFC headphones also feature an automatic on/off switch that enables the headphones as soon as they are placed on a user's head, and automatically turns the headset off, after a certain time, once removed. Additional features include a stereo plug that can easily be converted to a larger size jack, Neodymium Ferrite magnets, and a 4 hour battery life for the headphones. The AKG K 216 AFC headphone set was released in February 2006, and has an MSRP of $249.99.
